“The hero’s journey begins when something awakens us to the need for change–illumination, discomfort, pain. (Joseph) Campbell described this as the ‘call to adventure.’ Once we accept the call, he said, we push into the unknown. Along the way we face doubt, uncertainty, fear, and hardship….A series of tests push us to the brink of giving up, but in the ‘supreme ordeal’ we finally slay the dragon–facing down the darkness within ourselves, calling on previously untapped potentials and creating meaning where it did not previously exist.” – The Power of Full Engagement, Jim Loehr and Tony Schwartz
How’s that for a start?
I’ve read this book several times, but it wasn’t until recently that this passage jumped out at me in a major way. I realized that if I look at this life as an adventure, and in particular, my journey towards finding my true passion, I feel a great sense of empowerment and ease in the not knowing.
